Vintage 1982 Singapore River Wan Soon Kam Print wood framed boats color 11x15 framed and image size. One of a series of 1982 prints by notable Singapore artist Wan Soon Kam (1943-). Framed in black lacquered frame this print is overall clean. A few nicks on the existing painted wood frame from handling and the print has either a slight crease or a watercolor run on the white space on the lower part of the image. Look at images for more information. Saw tooth hanging hardware on back. No backing stains or discolorations.
Wan Soon Kam Bio :Wan Soon Kam, 65, is one of Singapores leading artists, renowned for his landscape and street scene paintings. His is a mixed media of acrylic, watercolor and in some instances, oil, utilizing each to create a desired effect. A Singaporean by birth, Wan graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 1961 and worked as a graphic artist and illustrator for a leading publishing firm before turning professional. As a professional artist, he has traveled widely from Europe, to America, New Zealand and Malaysia, sketching and painting impressions of the places he visited. His works have been collected both locally and abroad.Soon Kam's artworks carry an anointing touch to the hearts of many. His paintings are imbued with a sense of poignancy because he is still attached to a melancholic past. Soon Kam successfully combined acrylic and watercolor on his paintings with brilliance. His sensitivity towards these mediums enabled him to create exquisite textured effects on his paintings. One interesting factor about Soon Kam's methodology of painting is that he employed subtle brushstrokes with monochromatic layering. This unique way of painting resulted with a variation of hues and tones.Soo Kam's subject matter was focused into heritage and evolvement of society. He painted old Singapore scenes, which signified the lifeline and bedrock of our heritage. He created poetic ambience on his subjects. He layered acrylic on watercolor to form textured effects. Watercolor blocking technique was incorporated into his paintings by application of wax on paper.
