Are you looking for a retro vibe for your mid-century modern look? Know and love a young mom and want to share an image that would speak to her? This open edition lithograph from Raphael Soyer (1899-1989) may be just the piece you are looking for. Raphael was born in Borisoglebsk, Russia and emigrated to New York in 1912 most likely with his artist brothers Moses and Issac.  The brothers unplanned exodus occurred as tensions in Russia were starting to rise before coming to a 1917 revolution.  Raphael and his brothers had been encouraged in art by their father, and once he arrived in New York, he took up trade as a painter and printmaker.  He had formal training at Cooper Union, the National Academy of Design and the Art Students League.  A large body of his work is focusing on the lives of the common man.  When not focusing on these subjects he created many images of himself, his brothers and his artist community.  His art demonstrated an empathy for the subject and unwavering ability to capture the mood and mindset of his model.
